Waiting list / Preliminary Review
You cannot book a date yourself โ here is what actually happens after you submit.
There is no calendar. There is a queue.
The single most common misunderstanding about this whole process: there is no list of open dates to choose from. You are added to a list, and an appointment is given to you when one becomes free.
In the mission's own words
“You cannot book any appointments directly! Instead, the Embassy introduced a convenient online registration list for all categories… this easy registration procedure allows us to allocate you an appointment as soon as it becomes available.” That registration happens automatically once your preliminary review passes โ there is no separate action to take beyond submitting a complete file.
Two different waits, easy to confuse
- The preliminary review โ a visa officer checking what you uploaded is complete and correct. This is what decides whether you are added to the registration list at all, or sent back for a missing document (see the previous step).
- The appointment wait โ once the review passes, the time until an actual slot opens for you. This is the real bottleneck in Pakistan right now: often several months, sometimes 12 or more. It has nothing to do with how strong your file is โ it is purely a function of how many slots the mission has versus how many people are ahead of you.
This is why timing the earlier steps matters
Because the appointment wait alone can run past a year, the moment to register on the portal is the day you hold an admission letter, not once every other document is polished to perfection. Everything upstream of this โ attestation, the blocked account, the portal questionnaire โ should be run in parallel with university applications specifically so this queue starts as early as it possibly can.
How you will actually be told
- You receive a reservation confirmation by email once an appointment is allocated to you.
- The mission itself warns that these emails can land in spam โ check that folder regularly, not just your inbox, for the entire duration of the wait.
- Do not phone or email asking where you are in the queue; as covered in the previous step, the mission asks applicants specifically not to, since it slows processing for everyone.
โ Quick action plan
- Register the moment your file passes review โ do not wait for anything else to be "ready."
- Budget for the wait realistically: several months at best, over a year is not unusual.
- Check spam as well as your inbox, every few days, for the whole waiting period.
- Do not call or email to ask where you stand in the queue.
- Use the wait to finish the blocked account, insurance, and travel planning, so the appointment offer does not catch you unprepared.
