Pre-Visa Finance

Everything you pay before the visa decision, by currency

Every figure below is real and sourced, not an editable guess — each line credits the page it was checked against and the date it was checked, since fees like IELTS and the blocked account move without notice. The one exception is courier & misc, which has no official rate to point to and is estimated instead; that line is marked as such and carries no citation.

The three totals below are kept separate on purpose — Pakistan-side fees are paid in PKR, GRE/GMAT (if you need either) in USD direct to ETS/GMAC, and uni-assist, any university application fee, the blocked account, the visa and VFS Global's own fee in EUR. Converting them into one number would need an exchange rate this app does not track, and would hide which currency each cost actually needs.

1. Pakistan-side documents & tests — PKR

Attestation, courier, and the English test almost every applicant needs.

Item Amount (PKR)

IELTS Academic (computer-delivered)
Set locally by IDP / British Council and varies slightly by city — set to 0 if not required.

Rs. 75,600
Pakistan-side total Rs. 97,500

2. Admission tests, if required — USD

Paid directly to ETS or GMAC, not to any German or Pakistani body. Figures below assume you sit both — most computer-science Master's programmes actually need neither, so treat either row as 0 if your shortlist doesn't ask for it.

Item Amount (US$)
GRE General Test
ETS's own fee page — set to 0 if your shortlist does not require it (most CS Master's do not).

US$ 249
GMAT Focus Edition
Test-centre rate (US$300 online) — a business-programme test, rarely needed for CS. Set to 0 if not required.

US$ 275
Test fees total US$ 524

3. uni-assist — EUR

€75 for your first chosen course, €30 for each one after it — the same fee for the standard and VPD procedures. Group every course you intend to apply for into one submission; applying one at a time costs more. See the uni-assist step for the standard/VPD distinction.

University's own application fee is separate from uni-assist and is not included above — see section 4 below for any programme in this app's own database that charges one.

4. University's own application fee, if any — EUR

Most German public universities charge no separate application fee beyond uni-assist (if used) or their own free portal registration. A private university may charge one on top. The list below is not a guess — it is every programme in this app's own database whose application_fee is greater than zero. Tick any you are actually applying to and its fee is added to the EUR total below. See the university's own portal step.

Not added together — different currencies, paid at different points in the procedure. Converting them yourself needs today's exchange rate, which this tool does not track.

Not included: the blocked account capital

Separately from every fee above, you must show €11,904 in a blocked account. That is money you get back monthly once you arrive, not a cost — but you need it available on top of everything here. See the Blocked Account Comparison tool.

Before you rely on this

Fees change, and vary by mission, university and provider. Confirm each line against the official source linked next to it before budgeting against it.
